Guillermo M. Gauna-Vivas, recognised with the 2020 Princess of Girona Foundation Social Award, received his award yesterday after a year's wait due to the pandemic. During the ceremony, the Princess of Girona Foundation highlighted the need to give young people a voice and visibility by highlighting their leadership capacity, in a double edition in which the 2020 and 2021 awards were presented. The ceremony, presided over by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, was attended by HRH Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Princess of Girona, and HRH the Infanta Sofia, as well as personalities such as the First Vice-President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, and the President of Congress, Meritxell Batet.

In her speech, Princess Leonor addressed the award winners, stating that "the values you represent are very necessary, especially for my generation. Effort, solidarity, enthusiasm, capacity for initiative and self-improvement. All this defines you and helps you to improve. And you improve us all as a society".

With its annual Awards, the Princess of Girona Foundation, whose main objective is to support young people in all those aspects that are critical to their professional and personal development, places the emphasis on detecting and recognising the careers of brilliant young people -under 35 years of age- so that they can become points of reference for the rest of young people.

In this sense, Guillermo M. Gauna-Vivas, director of Ayúdame3D, is already a benchmark in the field of technology with social impact. His extensive experience in the field of 3D printing has enabled him to help vulnerable groups all over the world using this technology.

"Whatever you like and whatever you are passionate about, use it to help others, it can be done. We must find a way to contribute to improving the planet, contributing to society with our work", says the FPDGi 2020 Social Award

During the ceremony, a tribute was also paid to all the young people who took a step forward with the impact of the pandemic: making masks, bringing essential technology to those who, without it, had no access to education, helping the elderly, developing solidarity tools, etc. Ayúdame3D, the NGO that Guillermo directs, carried out logistical work that helped more than 20,000 people in 400 centres throughout Spain with the manufacture of 3D printed protective masks

The 9 winners of this edition made a choral speech that wanted to highlight the need to create opportunities for young people, and that education is always the best way forward. The awards ceremony closed with a speech by H.R.H. the Princess of Asturias and Girona and H.M. the King. Finally, the call for the 2022 Awards was opened, which will once again seek to distinguish the personal and professional careers of young people aged 16 to 35 who have stood out for their work, their merits and their exemplarity.

Ayúdame3D is an organization that promotes the social values of new technologies by creating awareness programs and providing aid through 3D printing. It has educational programs that seek to promote creative-resolutionary intelligence among young people, in addition to carrying out social awareness work. It also carries out CSR actions with companies to create a more ethical and supportive business environment, and has a platform of volunteers who are experts in 3D printing. All this in order to be able to distribute aid globally: trésdesis (3D printed arms for amputees around the world).
