The NGO Ayúdame3D launched its solidarity story "HELPI y la aventura de ayudar" (HELPI and the adventure of helping) last February. The story tells the story of Helpi, a very imaginative boy who loves superheroes and building games. With his 3D printing "magic machine", Helpi makes toys... until the coronavirus arrives and the protagonist decides to focus on helping others by making protective masks.

Helpi's story parallels the story of thousands of people who put their solidarity and work at the service of others during the worst months of the pandemic. It is about a year since the worst moments of the global pandemic caused by COVID-19. A year since the State of Alarm and confinement began. "All our work was put on hold: conferences, workshops, international shipments of our trésdesis... We knew we couldn't just sit back and do nothing. We had the resources and the capacity to help thousands of people, so how could we not?

So they adapted all their activity to help where it was most needed. It was a time when there was not enough protection for everyone and the professionals on the front line needed to be able to do their work safely. Thanks to the organisation's network of volunteers, Helpers3D, they began to print facial protection devices against the virus and face shields for masks. Helpers3D helped more than 20,000 people with devices that were delivered to more than 400 centres throughout Spain. They were not the only ones. Makers from all over Spain were involved in printing aid non-stop.

"HELPI and the adventure of helping" wants to pay tribute to all the people who decided not to stand idly by and help with their time, resources and knowledge to make the lives of others a little easier. One year after the hardest and most complicated moments of the pandemic, we believe it is very important to recognise the work of so many people who gave everything for others. All the staff who worked on the front line: in hospitals, in supermarkets, in transport, couriers... And of course, the makers. People who found a way to help from their homes" says Guillermo M. Gauna-Vivas, director of Ayúdame3D.

The story is on sale on the Ayúdame3D website, ayudame3d.org, for only 11.90 euros. All profits go to the manufacture and delivery of aid to people with disabilities and vulnerable groups around the world.

"We wanted to transmit all this learning and the importance of helping with the resources and knowledge one has in our solidarity story "HELPI and the adventure of helping". This story takes something positive out of the pandemic: helping is very easy and there are many people willing to make the lives of others easier," says Laura Martín, author of the story and communications director of Ayúdame3D.

Ayúdame3D is an organization that promotes the social values of new technologies by creating awareness programs and providing aid through 3D printing. It has educational programs that seek to promote creative-resolutionary intelligence among young people, in addition to carrying out social awareness work. It also carries out CSR actions with companies to create a more ethical and supportive business environment, and has a platform of volunteers who are experts in 3D printing. All this in order to be able to distribute aid globally: trésdesis (3D printed arms for amputees around the world).
