Plastics Europe collaborates with Ayúdame3D in the #SecondChances campaign, which aims to generate a social impact thanks to technology through the delivery of 10 trésdesis, 3D printed arms, to people with disabilities in different parts of the world. This is Laura's story.
Collaborating to help is fundamental. With the #SecondChances campaign we have changed many lives together: Mahjoub, Consolación, our Superkid with trésdesis Pokémon... Today we tell you Laura's story!
Laura's trésdesis is a design that we have made with a lot of love. It is pink and gray, his name is Yoshi and he will accompany Laura in her day to day life to help her with concrete actions to improve her quality of life.
Laura is a girl from Barcelona who had never considered wearing any type of device until now. "For me receiving this trésdesis has meant an evolution in myself. It was something I thought would never come because I considered it something strange, since I am totally used to living without it" she says.
Our differences are what make us equal and it is essential to make realities like Laura's visible in order to normalize them. Having different limbs is a reality like any other.
The design of Laura's trésdesis is the Mery model and it is personalized with the colors and details she chose. We work with recovered PLA for most of the trésdesis giving a positive use to plastic and looking for sustainability in everything we do.
Laura attended the delivery of the trésdesis with her aunt Nieves. It was a very emotional moment. Seeing how happy Laura was with her trésdesis was the best reward for all the work behind it.
Now it remains for Laura to gradually adapt to her new trésdesis. "I know it's going to be a process of adaptation and it's getting used to it. It's a big step for myself and the truth is that it's pure fantasy," she says.
"This arm is going to give him a lot of independence. I think what Ayúdame3D does is wonderful. I am very grateful," commented Nieves.
Campaigns such as #SecondChances by Plastics Europe make it possible for people with disabilities to have access to functional and adapted devices, but also make it possible to make different realities such as Laura's visible in order to normalize them.
"Helping is too easy not to."
